Inching forward...

Hello, hello, yes, happy New Year, wonderful. I need your help. My goal for the winter break is to colour the backgrounds for my film (which is still title-less because I'm not going to name it "Balance"). But I still have much to learn about the realm of colour. Just read the text and post some hints and help me out if you can.

I want to be a better artist. I see the final product in my mind but when it comes time to draw what I think, something gets lost in trasmission from the brain to the hand. Call it a new years resolution or a daily mantra I've always had, whatever, I want to make great things.

In an unrelated note, the Vitamin K banner for December.

  1. Case 1 and 2: I like option 1, the silhouette look

Case 3: I like option 2, with the ties lightly shaded.

That's my take. :) Use as you see fit. In any case, it's looking AWESOME so far! I can really see it coming to life, great job!!

  2. AWESOME STUFF, look at some of the videos on Newgrounds, there are some vids that try to emulate crowds by using some of the old animation techniques. Techniques such like separating the army in the back into multiple levels and making the levels move forward as though they were walking.

  3. Case 3.

Hey Kirsten, not sure if you're still working on it, but the background army of minions...

from my perspective a single flat colour unifies the minions as a group , while giving prominence to the head guy. Given the colour scheme shown, it also gives a slight ghouly/ghastly affect.

The other panel with the seperately painted pieces of each character gives more individuality to each character. However, it takes the prominence of the head honcho.

From my perspective, if the minions are to take more action than the head honcho I would prefer Option 2.

If they are to take less I would prefer option 1.

If head honcho isn't always going to be in the scene, perhaps a comparrison panel without him would be useful.

    Hope my opinion helps.
    Happy new years!
